Department of Conservation Building
Project Description
Constructed pre 1935 and designed originally as a factory, the now Department of Conservation Building was identified as being a potential earthquake risk.
A seismic report was carried out confirming this and detailing areas of weakness within the structure.
BPL Group designed a seismic strengthening scheme to lower the potential earthquake risk of the building while also refurbishing the interior and exterior.
Key features used in the strengthening design include:
- Wall Bracing
- Roof Bracing
- Tie Backs to existing Masonry walls
This project involved careful planning and thorough investigative work into the structure before the design stage could commence. Local knowledge helped to make this a cost effective design while still keeping the history intact.
