Wanganui City College

Constructed pre 1965, the administration building at Wanganui City College (formerly Wanganui Boys College or Wanganui Technical College) was identified as a potential earthquake risk.

BPL Group undertook a seismic assessment of the structure.

This confirmed the earthquake risk and highlighted areas of weakness within the structure.

A strengthening scheme was then designed to lower the potential risk in an earthquake, be cost effective and have minimal physical intrusion into the building.

Some of the processes used in doing this were:

• Filling window spaces in walls with reinforced concrete
• Portal frames
• Roof Bracing
• New reinforced concrete columns
