Whanganui Collegiate School Science Block

The Science Block building at Whanganui Collegiate School was constructed in the late 1960’s and has always been used as a laboratory block.

BPL Group was engaged to undertake a detailed assessment of the structure.

This confirmed the findings of the initial report and highlighted areas of weakness.

A strengthening scheme was then designed to lower the potential risk in an earthquake.

This scheme included shutting the block down while work was underway.

The design incorporated the use of:

• Shear Walls
• Ground Beams
• Wall Bracing Frames
• Roof Bracing
